Reflections on the Melbourne Dog Lovers Festival 2024
The Melbourne Dog Lovers Festival 2024 was more than just an event for us at Bark with Buster. It was one of those rare weekends that genuinely reminds you why you started a dog business in the first place.
Over the course of the festival, we met hundreds of passionate dog owners from across Melbourne and Victoria. Some stopped by simply curious about natural dog treats. Others came searching for healthier options for sensitive dogs, long lasting chews for power chewers, or better training rewards for puppies.
What stood out most was just how much Australians truly care about what they feed their dogs.
From the moment the doors opened, dogs were pulling their humans towards our stand, noses in the air trying to work out where the smell of our natural air dehydrated treats was coming from. Watching dogs light up after trying our treats for the first time was honestly one of the highlights of the entire weekend.
Meeting Melbourne’s Incredible Dog Community
One of the best parts of attending the Dog Lovers Festival was having real face to face conversations with Melbourne dog owners.
We spoke with puppy parents navigating training for the very first time, owners managing allergies and sensitive stomachs, and experienced dog lovers searching for healthier everyday rewards made with cleaner ingredients.
After years caring for dogs through Pet Stays Melbourne, we’ve seen firsthand how much the right nutrition and the right treat can change a dog’s energy, focus and overall happiness. Those conversations at the festival reinforced everything we already believed.
Many people were shocked to discover how many dog treats on the market still contain fillers, artificial additives, preservatives and unnecessary ingredients. That is exactly why Bark with Buster was created.
Our goal has always been simple: create premium Australian-made dog treats using real ingredients dogs instinctively love. Nothing artificial. Nothing hidden. Just real Australian proteins, air dehydrated to preserve natural flavour and nutrition.
The Treats Dogs Could Not Get Enough Of
Some products quickly became clear favourites across the weekend.
Our Kangaroo Cubes were incredibly popular with owners looking for high-value training treats, especially for puppies and dogs needing focus during obedience work.
Fish Jerky attracted dogs from halfway across the aisle. The natural aroma had dogs instantly interested — and owners loved hearing that it’s rich in natural omega oils while still being a simple single-ingredient treat.
Beef Liver continued to be one of our most talked-about products for training rewards and recall work. Many Melbourne dog owners told us they had fussy dogs at home and were amazed at how quickly their dogs responded to it.

For stronger chewers, our Pork Trotters, Pig Ears and Kangaroo chews became major talking points. Owners loved finding natural alternatives to heavily processed chews commonly found in supermarkets.
One of the most rewarding moments for us was hearing dogs crunch happily into treats right there at the stand while owners smiled and said things like:
“He never likes anything.”
“She’s usually so fussy.”
“That’s the fastest recall response we’ve had all week.”
Those are the moments you never forget.
What We Learned From Speaking With Hundreds of Dog Owners
After an entire weekend of conversations, some clear patterns emerged. More Australian dog owners are actively searching for:
- Natural dog treats with fewer ingredients
- Treats for sensitive stomachs and allergies
- Long lasting natural chews
- Healthier puppy training rewards
- Australian-made products they can trust
- Air dehydrated treats instead of heavily processed alternatives
It also became very clear that many Melbourne dog owners are becoming far more educated about canine nutrition and ingredient quality. People are reading labels more carefully. They are asking better questions. They want transparency.
That shift is something we genuinely love seeing.
More Than Just Dog Treats
The Dog Lovers Festival was also a reminder of how powerful the Melbourne dog community really is.
Throughout the weekend we met rescue organisations, trainers, groomers, dog sport enthusiasts and passionate everyday owners who all shared one thing in common: a deep love for dogs.
There is something incredibly special about being surrounded by thousands of people who understand that dogs are family. The atmosphere across the festival was full of excitement, laughter, education and genuine connection. Whether people came with a new puppy, a senior companion, or simply a love for dogs, everyone shared the same energy.
Thank You Melbourne 💛
To everyone who stopped by the Bark with Buster stand, sampled treats with their dogs, shared stories with us, supported our small Australian business or simply said hello — thank you.
We are genuinely grateful for every conversation, every smile and every wagging tail we got to experience throughout the weekend. Events like the Melbourne Dog Lovers Festival remind us why we are so passionate about creating natural Australian dog treats that dogs genuinely love.
We already cannot wait for the next one.
Until then, give your dog an extra treat from us 💛🐾
